F1 2001 - Main Review
Reviewer: Rehan Ali

Audio:  Fantastic across the board.

The new car engine sound is just fantastic, and the shrill wail of all ten cylinders firing at 17,000rpm along the straights, accompanied by the blended effects of the air rushing by and the rumble of your tyres against the asphalt, demands that you extract the maximum level of volume you can possibly attain on your speakers.

Sound

The sound in F1 2001 is outstanding. That`s just my opinion but every time I load the game up and drive out of the pits with the limiter on it amazes me - you switch the limiter off, accelerate and suddenly it all comes to life. The car sounds perfect. The crash noises are up to the usual standard of an F1 game (nothing wrong with them) and the other sound effects (going over the curbs, tyres losing grip) are all brilliant. In fact the wheelspin sounds and the tyres sliding are a bit different to what you hear in most F1 games - they are quite dull and you have to listen carefully (I don`t know if that is more realistic or not).
The sound is better than F1RC. It really is and I don`t see how anyone could argue. The only bad thing is that here in the UK we have Jim Rosenthal doing the pre and post race commentary and it is absolutely dreadful. It reminds me of the old Playstation F1 games where you had comentary during play - it might not be during play in F1 2001 but it still doesn`t feel right, I just don`t think it fits into the game at all. He also gives information on the cars and tracks when you are in the selection screens. He should stick to introducing the races on TV.

SONORO

A dir poco STRABILIANTE.

F1 2001 Interview

By Kenneth Verburg

On Friday October 26th High Gear held its first Online Chat Event in the three-year history of the site.In co-operation with Electronic Arts High Gear's Kenneth Verburg and EA Sports' James Hawkins, Lead Producer of F1 2001, discussed EA's Formula 1 games and especially F1 2001. After the HG Interview there was the possibility for the participants to ask their own questions. Kenneth, take it away...

Verburg: Ok :) Also, how did you put in those great engine sounds? Were they recorded on an actual car or?

JHawkins: We have lot's of real car audio reference but that is only useful to a certain extent. A few guys on here have probably heard of a certain G. Hill. What can I say, Greg and our audio guys here worked their magic - the engine sound is one aspect of the game I am very pleased with.

Verburg: I think a lot of people appreciate their work. It's one of the great advancements in F1 2001 I think.

Like the graphics, sound in a Formula game has never been so good.

Each car sounds as though you've actually got an engine revving up to 18,000rpm rather than a sick bumble bee.

Good Points:

Graphics are Superb

F1 2001 Review

Driving out of the garage is something we are used to by now since F1 Racing Championship. The first thing that strikes me is the incredible engine sound. It is just spot on with the sound we hear from the onboard cameras. I think it increases the feeling of the game enormously. And along with the sensation of speed it creates a feeling of being there, which is very important.
